Beach route in northern spain

Although there are those who consider that the best sun and beach destinations are in the south or east of Spain, especially because of the climate and atmosphere, the truth is that the northern regions of the country have some of the most beautiful coastlines on the peninsula.

Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country are undoubtedly ideal destinations for your holidays, places where you can combine an incredible range of leisure and culture with beaches that will take your breath away thanks to the contrast between the greenest of nature and the bluest of seas.

If you still don’t have a plan for this summer, do as we say and don’t miss the chance to take a sun, beach and culture route in the north… It’s a trip you won’t regret!
So that you can set your own path, here are some of the beaches you can’t miss:

Basque Country – Zarautz: In this charming town there is already a surfing atmosphere that has become a great attraction for its beach. Be careful, because in the afternoon the sea water almost reaches the promenade!

– La Concha: This huge bay in the centre of San Sebastian has become a must for anyone passing through the Basque Country. Don’t miss the chance to take a dip in its cool Atlantic waters, to contemplate the beautiful island of Santa Clara in front of you, or to have some delicious pinchos to our health!

– Laidatxu: This surfing destination is located in Bilbao and is the perfect place for both relaxation and action. It is located in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve.

Galicia- Rodas, CĂes Islands: Chosen as the best in the world by ‘The Guardian’ a couple of years ago, this beautiful island is the most similar to the paradisiacal Caribbean islands in our country.

– As Catedrais: A rugged coastline that is romantic and special thanks to the beautiful cliffs and grottoes that extend into the deep waters of the sea. It is an ideal place to watch the sunset.

– Barra Beach: Ideal if you are on your way to the nearby CĂes Islands, as it shares the same natural characteristics as those beaches, with beautiful turquoise waters and fine white sand.

Asturias- Playa AndrĂn: This coast of Llanes was one of the scenes of the famous film ‘El orfanato’, starring BelĂ©n Rueda. It is a small beach of golden sand surrounded by the immensity of the green and dense Asturian mountains.

– Gulpiyuri: We recommend you visit this beach simply out of curiosity, as it is closed to the open sea by a huge rock formation that is set right between the shore and the open sea.

– Antromero: As or more original than the previous one, the ground of this beach is not formed by sand, pebbles or rocks but by coloured crystals that the passing of the years have turned into a kind of pebbles… You have never seen anything like this!

– Playa del Silencio: With this name you can already imagine what awaits you, a peaceful coastline of soft golden sand surrounded by high cliffs where relaxation and disconnection are guaranteed.

Cantabria- El Cabo: If you still remember David Bustamante’s affection for his village of San Vicente de la Barquera and you have decided to visit it, don’t miss this beach, a beautiful isolated bay where you can enjoy a quiet day at the beach.

– Berria: A very long beach surrounded by green mountains that is one of the most typical landscapes of the community. Similar and equally beautiful are those of Ris, Mataleñas or Langre.

– Somo: Another curious beach destination. The extensive white sandy beach stretches like a dagger towards the interior of the Bay of Biscay.
