The Costa Brava is synonymous with sun, charming seaside towns and, of course, spectacular beaches and coves, most of them with crystal-clear waters and surrounded by lush vegetation.
Today we move to this area of the Catalan coast to discover one of its best beaches. This is Portitxol, which is located between Sant MartĂ d’EmpĂșries and L’Escala. It is a sandy beach with a family atmosphere that offers bathers wonderful views. It is surrounded by a pine forest and rocky formations. Would you like to find out more? Then come and join us!
Situated between rock formations
Located very close to the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia-EmpĂșries, which hides Greek and Roman ruins, this beach is bounded on both sides by rock formations. Unlike many other beaches on the Costa Brava, it does not offer an unspoilt landscape. In fact, just behind the beach stands the Hostal EmpĂșries, a beautiful white building that blends in well with its surroundings.
A beach full of services
As it is well equipped and has good access, the beach is usually very busy. Here you will find showers, lifeguard posts, a restaurant, a beach bar, toilets, beach umbrellas and sun loungers for hire… What’s more, right next to the hostel there is a large car park, which during the high season you have to pay for. On the other hand, you should know that its waters are calm and shallow, so they are ideal for children.
The viewpoint over the bay of Roses
The viewpoint overlooking the Bay of Roses deserves a special mention, which you can reach by taking the stairs to the right of the beach. From here you can see the arch of El Portitxol. Here we leave you with our gallery, where you will find more images of this beach on the Costa Brava. Don’t miss it!
