Portdoguer the most emblematic beach in cadaques

Portdoguer Cadaques
Have you had the chance to visit CadaquĂ©s? It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful towns on the Costa Brava, a port enclave and artists’ haven where you will have the chance to have a wonderful meal, stroll through some tremendously beautiful spots and, of course, relax and bathe on the beach.

Of all the beaches in Cadaques, there is one that stands out above the rest. We are referring to Portdoguer, a small sandy area that was painted on more than one occasion by Salvador DalĂ. Would you like to find out more about this marvellous Catalan beach? Then don’t miss what we have to tell you below!

A beautiful landscape

As you can see for yourself in the images that we show you in our gallery, the beach of Portdoguer, also known as Port d’Alguer and Port Alguer, is very close to the church of Santa Maria, which crowns this beautiful landscape. This sandy area is, without a doubt, one of the greatest emblems of CadaquĂ©s.

The origin of the name

The name Portdoguer has its origin in the old port that was in the area, used to make small barrels, also called “dogues”, which were used to keep the fish that were caught.

A beach with services despite its size

The beach is small (65 metres long and 15 metres wide) and is composed of grey gravel. In addition, part of the beach is asphalted. Despite its size, the beach has some services, such as a bar, showers, buoys and pleasure boat hire. You should also bear in mind that there are good conditions for anchoring. Therefore, it is not unusual to see numerous boats in front of the beach. We leave you with our gallery below, where you will find more images of this beach in CadaquĂ©s. Don’t miss it!
