Cantabria is one of the most spectacular coastlines on the Iberian Peninsula, and its characteristic Atlantic climate, beautiful coastline and verdant vegetation make it an idyllic place.
However, if you visit this autonomous region in search of the best beaches, you should focus your route on the beautiful beaches of Santander Bay, which includes the coasts of the six municipalities of Santander, Camargo, El Astillero, Marina de Cudeyo, RibamontĂĄn al Mar and Villaescusa.
Don’t miss some of the best!
-Camel Beach: This 500-metre beach is located in the centre of Santander, to the west of the Magdalena Peninsula.
La Magdalena Beach: Quite crowded and located in a semi-urban environment, this beach combines the best offer of leisure and services with a golden beach of excellent characteristics surrounded by a landscape of very green vegetation.
-Puntal Beach: Simply incomparable, this coastline of fine, whitish sand juts out into the blue sea with its curious elongated dagger shape.
-Somo Beach: It is one of the longest in the whole bay, with 3,620 metres in length. Its magnificent fine golden sand makes it perfect for relaxing while its magnificent waves have made it one of the favourite beaches for surfers.
-Pedreña-el Rostro Beach: It is located in a small village in Marina de Cudeyo. Although it offers spectacular views of the whole bay, it is important to check the state of the tide beforehand, as depending on the conditions, the beach may disappear.
-Mataleñas Beach: This is a beautiful little cove of blonde sand flanked by high cliffs that make it a unique and intimate place.
Other beautiful coasts include El Sardinero (divided into two beaches), La Concha and Bikinis, among others.
