Gijón concentrates in a single city the comfort and infrastructures of a big city and a privileged nature. Among many other symbols of Gijón, such as the sculpture “In Praise of the Horizon”, by Eduardo Chillida, is the beach of San Lorenzo, which has an extension of 1,500 metres, flanked by the Paseo del Muro, which runs from the Church of San Pedro to the Mayán de Tierra after rounding the mouth of the river Piles.

A Gijón split in two
If we look at Gijón from above, we can see that it is split in two by the Cerro de Santa Catalina, an ancient Roman settlement on which the seaside neighbourhood of Cimadevilla is located. On one side there are two ports, the marina and the commercial port, and the new beaches (Poniente and Arbeyal) and on the other the beach of San Lorenzo, up to the mountain of La Providencia.
Coastal path of Cervigón
At the eastern end of San Lorenzo the Paseo del Muro continues beyond the beach. It is what the people of Gijón call the Senda Costera del Cervigón, a maritime route of more than 2 kilometres that reaches other beaches such as Rinconín or Peñarrubia.
Access
Given its location (it is integrated in the urban area of the town of Gijón), it can be reached by car from any point in the city. It is also well communicated with Oviedo and Avilés by motorway and by regular bus and train lines. It is important to bear in mind that, as it is an urban beach, and as Gijón is a very touristy city, you can find all kinds of facilities and services.
