Formentera beach out formentera

We love Formentera, and it is not strange if we take into account that our passion is beaches… This magical Balearic island has been the protagonist of our blog on many occasions, either when we have talked about its best beaches, or in articles about nudist beaches… Formentera is a paradise on earth, which treasures the best of the Mediterranean.

So I am going to travel to this beautiful island to discover a jewel that not everyone knows about: S’Alga beach (Platja S’Alga), which belongs to the small island of S’Espalmador. A place so beautiful that it was the inspiration for one of the most magical films in the history of cinema?

Neverland Island

Have you seen Walt Disney’s Peter Pan? I’m sure you have, and that you remember Neverland Island fondly. Well, if you visit the islet of s’Espalmador you will find this mythical place again, as it was the inspiration for the scenes. This place is practically attached to Formentera and is part of a protected natural area. It measures just three square kilometres and is 150 metres from the island’s coast. Access to S’Espalmador is free, although the island is privately owned.

No restaurants, no beach bars…

S’Alga beach is the best known beach on the islet, although it is quite unknown on the island of Formentera. To get there you can take a boat that leaves the port of Formentera and passes by Ses Illetes, but you can also swim there when the tide allows it. The private nature and nature reserve nature of the island demands the utmost respect for its natural environment from visitors. On this beach you won’t find parties, beach bars or restaurants where you can treat yourself to a seafood platter… But you will find a place full of tranquillity, a true natural paradise.
