El verodal beach in the island of el hierro

The island of El Hierro is one of those jewels treasured by Spanish tourism, and it still retains all its picturesque charm and its magnificent, perfectly preserved natural environment. Scuba diving enthusiasts from all over the world flock to this Canary Island to enjoy its seabed, and no wonder: El Hierro is considered one of the best places to dive in the world.

In addition, this island also has beautiful beaches, which we have already talked about on this website on a previous occasion. Today we are going to focus on the largest of them all: Playa El Verodal.

Red sand

Located in the municipality of La Frontera, near the Orchilla lighthouse, this beach is very different from the rest of the island. Firstly, it is a large beach; and secondly, its sand is natural. El Hierro is an island with steep coasts, unlike some of its other sisters, such as Fuerteventura, so it has opted to create artificial beaches for the enjoyment of locals and visitors alike. Its beautiful red sand makes it very special, as well as the wild scenery of cliffs that surrounds it.

Arenas Blancas Beach

Although it is a beach worth visiting to enjoy the scenery and the sun, it should be pointed out that it is dangerous due to its strong currents. It is necessary to take advantage of the days when the sea is calm in order to bathe at ease. The beach also has a picnic area, perfect for a full day at the beach. And for those looking for something less crowded, just three kilometres away from El Verodal beach is Arenas Blancas beach. On this more intimate and practically unspoilt beach, the currents are much gentler and the bathing is much more pleasant.
