Levante beach in gibraltar

Today we want to talk about an area of the peninsula that we have not dealt with very often but that, despite the political and economic problems it has caused, is well worth a visit. Yes, you got it right, we are referring to Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory, under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom but claimed by the Kingdom of Spain.

Of course, there are few places in the world like Gibraltar. Its main attraction is the rock, which can be seen from 100 kilometres away. But beyond the rock, this corner of southern Spain is a good place to go on holiday, or at least to visit if you happen to be in the area. This is where you will find the beach we are going to show you today. It is the Levante beach (“Eastern Beach” in English), do you want to know it?

The longest and widest beach

Levante Beach is the longest and widest beach in Gibraltar, stretching for several hundred metres along the shore of the isthmus separating the Rock from Spain and close to the runway of Gibraltar Airport. The curious thing is that it is in the territory of the isthmus, over which Spain does not recognise British sovereignty.

Direct sun all day long

The setting of Gibraltar’s Levante beach is residential and industrial and unlike most other beaches in Gibraltar, which sometimes lack direct sunlight due to the shade provided by the rock, it enjoys plenty of direct sunlight all day long until sunset.

As well as being able to enjoy the sun all day long, on Levante beach you will enjoy the views of the Rock of Gibraltar, the most important tourist attraction of this territory which to this day continues to be a source of dispute.

How to get there

Access to Levante beach is via Devils Tower Road, which runs parallel to the beach until it reaches the airport runway.
