Today we have woken up a little more romantic than usual, so we have decided to dedicate our daily article to one of the most romantic beaches on the Spanish coastline, which, by the way, has thousands of spots where you can experience truly magical moments with the person you love the most.
One of those beaches where love will flow at the edge of the shore is La Magdalena, located in the city centre of Santander, in the southern part of the Magdalena Peninsula, open to the bay of Santander. With a length of 900 metres and an average width of 70 metres, this beach is the widest after El Sardinero. Would you like to know more about it?
Characteristics of the beach
Its sand is fine and golden and its waters are very calm and warmer than those of the Sardinero, as they are inside the bay. It is also the perfect beach for windy days as it is sheltered. As it is an urban beach, it offers all kinds of services: toilets, showers, telephone, litter bins, cleaning service, deckchair hire, boat hire, beach kiosks, yacht club, disabled access…
The Magdalena Peninsula
The Magdalena peninsula was a gift from the city of Santander to King Alfonso XIII, who used it as a summer residence between 1912 and 1929. Previously, it had been the most important strategic point in Santander (proof of this are the Roman archaeological remains from after the 1st century. In addition to Magdalena Beach, the peninsula is home to Bikini Beach, the monument to FĂ©lix RodrĂguez de la Fuente, the three caravels used by the Cantabrian navigator Vital Alsar to commemorate Francisco de Orellana’s voyage in the Pacific Ocean and a small free zoo where you can see ducks, penguins and seals. Without a doubt, it is the ideal place to visit before or after a swim at the Magdalena beach.
