As you already know, the beaches of northern Spain are a real treasure trove. If you haven’t discovered them yet, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible in order to enjoy them to the full. That’s why today I’m bringing you a very special suggestion in the Cantabrian Sea: La Arena beach, in the Cantabrian municipality of Arnuero.
It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the north (although there are so many and so marvellous that it would be very difficult to make a ranking of the most beautiful). Let’s just say that it is a spectacular beach that will delight any swimmer, even those who wish to practise nudism, as it has an area set aside for them.
Golden sand and the blue of the Bay of Biscay
La Arena beach is located at the mouth of the Ajo estuary, and is approximately 150 metres long and 40 metres wide. It is not what you would call a very large beach, but as it has a medium level of occupation, since it is quite isolated, it is very pleasant to spend a day at the beach.
It is set in a rocky environment with lots of vegetation, very beautiful as is usually the case in Cantabria, and it is a golden sandy beach. Moreover, it is kept in perfect condition, which is why it has been awarded the Blue Flag. Its waters are clean and calm, although it sometimes has moderate waves. It is a very suitable beach for children, as there are large areas where there is little cover.
A somewhat wild beach…
As it is somewhat isolated, it does not have the services of other larger, more urban beaches. This should be taken into account when planning your day, especially when it comes to food, as there are no kiosks or restaurants on La Arena beach.
Perhaps this lack of services is an advantage, after all, that preserves the isolation, and incidentally also the nature, of this marvellous beach. At least, that’s the way I like to see it. In any case, who needs a restaurant when you are on a beach like this?
