Enjoying the magnificent coastal landscapes of Lanzarote is a pleasure practically 365 days a year, and the magnificent spring weather that the Canary Islands always offer encourages us to visit them.
On more than one occasion we have reviewed some of the best beaches on the island, and today we would like to bring you closer to an isolated and spectacularly preserved coastline: Famara beach. It is an extensive sandy area of almost 3 kilometres of dark sand bathed on the shore by excellent quality waters and located at the foot of the Risco de Famara, which provides it with natural protection from the outside world, making it a place for relaxation and disconnection.
In addition to the above, the beach is also known for the stones and dunes or sand dunes that make up a desolate natural environment of unparalleled beauty. However, don’t be frightened by the thought of a vast stretch of sand with no services to meet your needs: along the beach you will find some areas with bars, restaurants, villas and hotel zones.
The winds of the area make it unsuitable for a traditional sun and beach day, but at the same time make it one of the best coasts of Lanzarote for strolling, for enjoying beautiful sunsets or for surfing, a sport for which not only the beach but also the small fishing village of Caleta de Famara has become especially popular.
A piece of advice? Don’t miss the opportunity to go up to the nearby Mirador del RĂo (the work of CĂ©sar Manrique) and contemplate the spectacular views of the island of La Graciosa and the Chinijo Archipelago.
