We told you yesterday that on this website we wanted you to get to know some of the best beaches in Spain. Although we have already told you about many of them, there are others that you may not know about yet. One of the most beautiful in our country is the beach of Cuevas del Mar.
This is an idyllic natural enclave located at the western end of the council of Llanes, near Villanueva, although the reference point for approaching it is Nueva. The beach is limited by the rocky walls that surround it, inside which there are a large number of small caves. Its crystal-clear waters and spectacular scenery make it one of the most magical spots in Asturias.Centuries of tides from the indomitable Cantabrian Sea have managed to carve numerous hollows in the rocky cliff face that give it an unusual appearance, creating a beautiful landscape that is not to be missed if you visit the north of Spain. This beach of fine white sand is located at the mouth of the Cuevas River and forms part of the Protected Landscape of the Eastern Coast of Asturias. When the tide is low, you can walk across the formations that the sea has created on the limestone rock.
This is a magnificent beach for bathing, as it is not dangerous. As it is sheltered, there are practically no waves and, furthermore, it is very flat, shallow and has no currents. It is located in the tourist area of Nueva, some 16 kilometres from Llanes, which is why it is considered semi-urban, its level of occupation is usually high in summer and, although it has all the services that most tourists would like (a lifeguard post, car park, showers, drinking water, restaurant, cleaning service…), constructions have been permitted very close to the sandy area, which spoil the appearance of the beach.
