Sun, beach, culture and relaxation are the best attributes to convince you that the beach of Bolonia is one of the best southern coasts on the Costa de la Luz.
Next to Tarifa and very close to the Moroccan coast you’ll find this extensive stretch of sand almost four kilometres long where the soft white sand is bathed on the shore by beautiful turquoise waters… A swim will be a real pleasure!
Bolonia beach is part of the beautiful Estrecho Natural Park, so it is a protected area where the environment is perfectly preserved. In the western sector of the beach, for example, you can enjoy the natural monument (since 2001) that is the Duna de Bolonia… If you go there you can’t miss it!
As if it were not enough to enjoy such a gift of nature, man has also done his part to give this beach a magical and special air that makes it stand out from the rest of the beaches you have visited before: Just a few metres away are the ruins of the Roman city of Baelo Claudia, dating back to the 2nd century BC.
You will be able to see the city’s Roman forum, the temples of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, the Basilica, the Theatre of Baelo, the temple of Isis and the remains of the aqueduct that supplied the city’s inhabitants.
But don’t worry, because beyond all this, Bolonia beach also offers you a good range of leisure activities and services where you’ll find some delicious restaurants, beach bars where you can get rid of the intense southern heat, some small local shops and even a hippie market with handicrafts.
Luckily the beach is not too crowded even during the main summer months, so you can grab your towel at any time of the day and stand there without any problems… 3,800 metres are a lot of fun!
