Having published an article about the three best beaches in the south of Mallorca, we felt obliged to publish a similar article about the beaches in the north, which, although they are not so famous, are also worth visiting.
Below you will be able to see photos and gather information on what in my humble opinion are the best. If you think I have left any out, feel free to use the comments section and add any others that you think are appropriate.
Formentor beach
Also known as Cala Pi de la Posada, Playa Formentor is an inlet about 15 kilometres from Port de Pollença, which is the nearest town. That in itself gives us a good clue as to the tranquillity we can find there, lying on its fine-grained white sand while we feel enveloped by a leafy forest of pines and holm oaks that reminds us that Mallorca is an island of great natural beauty. The water is very clean and not too shallow, so it is perfect to go with children. However, in high season you run the risk of having trouble placing your towel in its kilometre-long beach. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy the spectacular views of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range from the Mirador de Formentor viewpoint.
Alcudia Beach
Very close to Port d’Alcudia we can enjoy Alcudia beach, which for many people should be among the best beaches in Mallorca. I say this because of its fine white sand and the fact that it is one of those beaches that are always awarded a Blue Flag for the cleanliness of its waters and its beautiful surroundings. It is about 3.5 kilometres long and is highly recommended for families, as it has all kinds of services and it is possible to practice all kinds of water sports. On the long wooden promenade at the back you can browse the shops, eat in a restaurant, have a drink in a cafĂ© or stay in a hotel. In fact, you can even visit the tourist office there.
Beach of Muro
If you walk towards Port d’Alcudia from Playa d’Alcudia, you will only have to walk three more kilometres to get past the port and come across Playa de Muro, which is another of the natural treasures of the largest Balearic island. The good thing about it is that it is a very large beach (almost 6 kilometres long) where you won’t have any trouble relaxing, as even in July and August it doesn’t get completely full. Its sand dunes attract tourists, who are completely satisfied as soon as they see the blue tones that blend into the water. It is an easily accessible beach that has all kinds of services and is within walking distance of several hotel complexes that are usually fully occupied from the beginning of the summer until the end.
CarbĂł cove
Cala Carbó is a small cove located 7.3 kilometres from Pollença, in one of the northernmost points of Mallorca. It is located next to Cala Molins, Cala Clara and Cala Barques, three beaches with which it forms a group called Cala Sant Vicenç. Sand, gravel and seaweed are what we can find in its waters, while the shore is not one of the most comfortable to lie on, as it is full of stones. This makes it a spot that is not visited by too many tourists, who miss out on its charm and crystal-clear waters.
DeiĂ Cove
Right in the middle of the Tramuntana mountains, in the northwest of Mallorca, Cala DeiĂ demands its share of the limelight despite its small size. It is 70 metres long and is littered with pebbles and rocks of considerable size. The best thing about it, apart from the mesmerising landscape, is the greenish-blue colour of its waters, which inevitably invite you to take a dip. After swimming, you can always recharge your batteries in the two nearby restaurants, which serve paellas, tapas and the best fish in the area. Not only that, but you can also take a stroll around DeiĂ , a very peaceful village where many artists, writers and creative people have sought inspiration and found it.
Sant Pere Mal Pas Beach
About 2.5 kilometres from Alcudia, between the Donaire “Cocodrilo” Marina and the Mal Pas housing development, is the Sant Pere Mal Pas beach, which is about 100 metres long. It is ideal to go with children because the water covers very little for a good handful of metres. Although the buildings that have been built on the seafront have affected its vegetation, it is still possible to see thistle, barron and pine trees that make the stay more pleasant. The ends of this beach are rocky and its waters could not be cleaner. There are all kinds of services, parking is easy and it is easily accessible.
