Now that autumn is just a step away, what do you say we head into the weekend from a destination where the weather is always pleasant? Yes, we are referring to the Canary Islands, an archipelago with a lot to offer the traveller.
Today we’re taking you to Gran Canaria to introduce you to some of its most recommended beaches. We would like to apologise in advance for all those we have left out. Would you like to join us?
Maspalomas
As it could not be otherwise, we are going to start by talking about Maspalomas beach, where the main tourist centre of Gran Canaria has developed. It stretches from Playa del Inglés to the Maspalomas lighthouse. It is home to the Maspalomas Dunes and the Maspalomas Pond, natural areas of great scientific and tourist interest. There is also a nudist area within its boundaries.
El Inglés Beach
Playa del Inglés, which is located on the east coast of the Maspalomas Dunes, could not be missing from our list. It has an extension of around 3 kilometres (practically the same as Maspalomas) and offers golden sands and calm waters. You should also know that there is an area for nudists and areas for sports activities, both in the sea and on the sand.
Las Canteras
Another highly recommended beach in Gran Canaria is Las Canteras, an urban beach much visited by tourists and locals alike. Its name is linked to La Barra, a rock that runs parallel to the shore.
GĂŒigĂŒi
Finally, we would like to talk about GĂŒigĂŒi which, for many, is the only unspoilt beach in Gran Canaria. Located at the foot of a massif declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, this beach offers impressive views of the Teide, provided the weather is good. The only problem is that access is quite difficult.
