The best beaches for snorkelling in costa brava

snorkel-Islas-Medas
Snorkelling enthusiasts can indulge their passion on the Costa Brava. There are many beaches and coves where you can enjoy this sport that only requires goggles, snorkel and fins (and a wetsuit if the water is very cold). The latter is not necessary on the coast of the province of Girona, as it is bathed by the Mediterranean Sea and its waters are not freezing, although it is true that the temperature is not as pleasant as on the Costa Dorada, especially as you get closer to Cadaqués.

In this article I will share what in my opinion are the most suitable beaches for snorkelling, so take note and get ready to be amazed by its seabed.

Sant Francesc cove (Blanes)

Cala-Sant-FrancescI have had the opportunity to dive in its waters and the truth is that the experience was fantastic. The water is very clean and you can walk along the rocks to see all kinds of fish without having to go into the sea. It is a semi-urban cove surrounded by a pine forest that never tires of being distinguished with a Blue Flag for how well it is maintained and for the services it offers to bathers (showers, deckchairs, a beach bar…).

Roques Planes Cove (Calonge)

Cala-Roques-PlanesThis other cove is not to be missed either. It is called Roques Planes (Flat Rocks), although in reality there are some rocks that are very flat and others that are rather rounded. In any case, it is a magical spot that can be reached from Can Cristus beach. Tranquillity is guaranteed and it has all the ingredients for a magnificent day’s snorkelling for anyone who decides to dip their head in the water.

Morisca Cove (Lloret de Mar)

Cala-MoriscaWhen you see that it is in Lloret de Mar you might think that it is not an ideal cove for relaxing. However, it is quite the opposite, as it is on the outskirts and to reach it you have to walk through the Cala Canyelles housing estate, along the GR-92. Stairs and tunnels precede a spectacular landscape that motivates you not only to go snorkelling, but also to relax and disconnect lying on a towel.

Platja Sa Conca beach (Platja d’Aro)

Platja-Sa-ConcaIn a beach destination as busy as Platja d’Aro, in the S’Agaró urbanisation, there is more than enough space for those who wish to lay their towel on the 400 metres long and 40 metres wide Platja Sa Conca. In addition, there are all kinds of services and this makes it a very family-friendly beach. It must be said that it is divided into two areas, Cala dels Oriços or s’Oriçar, the most appropriate for spotting marine species. In fact, this area is so called because of the sea urchins that can be found there.

Medes Islands (L’Estartit)

Illes-MedesFinally, I could not forget such a fantastic place as the Medes Islands. It is an archipelago formed by seven islands and some islets with an approximate surface of 21,5 hectares. Many years ago, they were frequented by pirates, something we know from the remains of shipwrecks that have been found. Today it is a National Protected Natural Park and a Specially Protected Area of Mediterranean Importance. It is an area where you can go on boat trips where you can go snorkelling and scuba diving due to the large number of marine species that can be seen.
