Visiting the Canary Islands is a pleasure at any time of the year, and it is not exactly an effort to enjoy the best climate (from approximately 18ÂșC), perfect waves for surfing and an active atmosphere capable of recharging your batteries in just a few days.
Gran Canaria is the main island of the Canary archipelago and also one of the most visited. If you have decided to visit it, take note of the beaches you can’t miss:
1. Maspalomas: This urban beach is the most central of the island, a meeting point for all tourists. It is an extensive coastline of golden sand, curious dunes and clean blue waters accompanied by a promenade full of shops, restaurants and bars. It is perfect for surfing.
2. Las Canteras: It is located in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and is a very cosmopolitan beach. However, the overcrowding in the central summer months can make it a bit overwhelming.
3. Playa de MogĂĄn: This coarse sandy beach is located in the charming little village of MogĂĄn, a place of simply unique architecture.
4. Puerto Rico: It is actually an artificial beach, but it is covered with the best sand brought from the Sahara. It is one of the warmest areas of the island and offers a quiet family atmosphere with a perfect offer of leisure and services.
5. Playa del Inglés: Just as popular and crowded as the first ones, this beach of almost 3 km of golden sand offers all kinds of services and the possibility of doing a lot of activities such as boat or jet ski rides, sailing, windsurfing or water skiing, among others.
6. San AgustĂn: It is much quieter than some of the previous beaches, although it is not free from the constant tourist visits. It is about 670 metres long and is surrounded by an environment full of bars, seafood restaurants and small local shops.
Other beaches worth visiting are Alcaravaneras, Los Amadores or Taurito, for example.
