Blanes is a municipality known as the gateway to the Costa Brava. It is the first beach on the Costa Brava and is just a few kilometres from Barcelona, which is why its beaches fill up every day in the summer months.
Most of the beaches are perfect for a dip, although some are rockier than others. What they all have in common is the good atmosphere.
Sant Francesc Cove
Cala Sant Francesc is without a doubt my favourite. It is about 200 metres long and 35 metres wide. It is surrounded by pine trees and has fine golden sand. It is one of those beaches that have earned the blue flag for its cleanliness, which is why more than one swimmer takes the opportunity to snorkel. I did it once and will repeat the experience as soon as I can.
Blanes Beach
The concept of Platja Blanes is totally different. It is a beach of fine sand about 625 metres long and 40 metres wide. It is ideal to go with the family and it is not usually difficult to find a place to put your towel, unless it is the middle of August and you want to be close to the shore. It has also been awarded the blue flag for the quality of the water and the services available to bathers. It is adapted for wheelchair users.
Punta de Santa Anna Cove
Although it is not as popular as the two previous ones, in summer it is usually full. It is smaller, measuring only about 80 metres long and 25 metres wide. It may not be the best beach to go to with small children, as it is rather rocky. It is, however, perfect for snorkelling.
