The Basque Country is a great option for surf lovers looking for a few days of action and relaxation, and in addition to the magnificent waves of its beaches, it has an exceptional natural and urban environment.
Laidatxu, in Mundaka, is one of the best known beaches, both nationally and internationally, as it offers the best conditions for surfing. In fact, several surfing championships are held here every year, such as the ‘Billabong Pro Mundaka’.
As well as calm, cool waters, Laidatxu stretches along a coastline of comfortable golden sand 90 metres long and 100 metres wide, so that there is also room to relax after a long day’s sport.
It is also worth mentioning that the beach is quite busy, especially during the summer months, when, in addition to surfers, many families come to the beach to enjoy its tranquillity.
This small urban coast has all the safety and hygiene services on the beach (lifeguards, Red Cross, showers, rubbish bins, cleaning, etc.), as well as a good range of leisure activities in the surrounding area, making it a friendly and lively place, ideal for holidays.
Located on the left bank of the Mundaka estuary and next to the large beach of Laida, Laidatxu belongs to the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve.
You can get there by bus on the Bilbao-Bermeo line (stopping at Mundaca) or by car, as you will find a huge free car park right behind the beach.
