The camel beach in santander

Can you imagine sunbathing in northern Spain while watching a camel in the sea? We’re not crazy! You can do it at Camel Beach, in the municipality of Santander, Cantabria.

This is a small beach located at the entrance to the Magdalena Peninsula, named after a rock near the seashore with a camel-shaped silhouette that can be seen at low tide. The Camel Beach is about 10,000 square metres in size and is very quiet, without a lot of waves and with fine golden sand. In addition to the camel, the most characteristic feature of this beach is a rock with a small mountain that until recently was crowned by a statue of Neptune as a child and from which you can enjoy incredible panoramic views, especially of the other beaches in the town.
It is inevitable to associate Camello Beach with the game of paddle, the beach sport par excellence in Santander. You will find many people practising this activity, which dates back to the last century. It is said that a group of tennis fans used to go to the beach to catch the balls that escaped the tennis club’s players and that, in the absence of a racket, they used boat boards to play.

Thanks to the large parking area, there is a large influx of bathers and visitors throughout the year, so the level of occupancy is usually very high. Playa del Camello beach also has a lifeguard service during the summer months, access for people with reduced mobility, footbaths, litter bins, waste collection and fountains, among other services. The beach also has a small beach bar, where you can buy some drinks.
