Despite the fact that the weather still doesn’t want to give us a break and spring continues its changing and capricious personality, giving us a bit of a change in the form of sun and rain, many of us continue to long for the beach. Sometimes we feel like going to the marvellous beaches of the Atlantic coast, specifically those of Galicia, to enjoy a paradise very different from the one “sold” to us by the travel agencies.
Because on these beaches, blue skies and coconut trees are a thing of the past. Or little, perhaps of the former. But their beauty is such that they are well worth a visit. Today I show you the beach of Santa Cristina, located in Oleiros (A Coruña), whose spectacular nature is a good example of the quality of the beaches of this Autonomous Community.
Blue Flag
Some time ago we talked on this website about Bastiagueiro Beach, which also belongs to the municipality of Oleiros. This place is a truly privileged place as far as beaches are concerned, enjoying a large number of beautiful sandy beaches. The beach of Santa Cristina has had a Blue Flag since 2011, and the region is highly regarded in terms of tourism due to the excellent environmental conservation policy followed by its politicians and citizens.
Defined areas and atmosphere
Santa Cristina beach is very beautiful. In addition to its fine white sand, it is worth mentioning the tranquillity of its waters. It has two areas: the open sea and the area overlooking the Burgo estuary, dedicated to shellfishing but where bathing is permitted. A beautiful promenade runs along this beach, culminating in a grassy area for picnics. To put a but to this place, we can point out how difficult it is to park next to it… However, its spectacular scenery, clean waters and the day and night entertainment offered by the locals that surround it make Santa Cristina the spoilt child of Oleiros.
