The beach of monsul in almeria

Even though it’s been a few days since Spain left summer behind, we can’t stop looking at the beautiful coastline of our country, and why are we going to miss our coasts until next year?

Whatever the case may be, on this website we love to show you the best beaches in the world and, as many of them are within our borders, many days are devoted to our coastline. In fact, in the last few days we have shown you the cove of Aiguafreda in Begur, the fantastic beach of San Martiño in the Cíes Islands and we have told you about the coast of Conil de la Frontera, in Andalusia. Today we would like to stop in Andalusia to show you one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, the beach of Mónsul. Would you like to know a little more about it?

A beach like a film

This unspoilt beach of fine, dark sand surrounded by original and beautiful rock formations is located near the Almeria town of San José, specifically in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Due to its peculiarity, it has been chosen for well-known film scenes from “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, “The Adventures of Baron Münchhausen” or “Lawrence of Arabia”.

Right in the middle of the beach is the emblematic volcanic rock known as La Peineta and, to its left, the Duna del Mónsul, which is a real eye-catcher. Its crystal-clear waters are ideal for a dip and even for snorkelling.

This is an unspoilt area of enormous beauty that you can visit at any time of the year. You can get there by car or on foot. To get there, you will have to leave the village of San José and head first towards Playa de los Genoveses, another of the most beautiful beaches in the area. El Mónsul is about five kilometres from San José.
