We often go in search of the most spectacular beaches outside the borders of our country, looking for paradise in faraway places where everything seems more secluded and special.
Big mistake. In reality, in Spain we have so many places to discover that we would be surprised how unwise we are not to give them the importance they deserve and waste them.
Have you been, for example, to Cala Varques, one of those paradisiacal corners of Mallorca, a small cove located in the municipality of Manacor between the towns of Portocolom and Porto Cristo?
Its mere 70 metres long and 50 metres wide make it an intimate, family beach, although it is also a place where it can be difficult to find a spot. This is not surprising either, as anyone who appreciates the landscape it offers simply cannot resist a visit: fine white sand, crystal-clear waters that share the terrain with rock formations and a setting of verdant Mediterranean vegetation that will make you enjoy the best of the house.
The fact that overcrowded tourism has not taken its toll on the area also has its side effects, and you’d better be prepared with food and refreshments from home if you don’t want to have to take the car when you get hungry.
One of the curiosities of this beach is that not only can you find sunbathers sunbathing or splashing in the water, but you’ll also be accompanied by the cows from the neighbouring farm who sometimes also want to enjoy the privileges of their land… A most amusing sight!
You can reach this beach by car, although you will have to park your car and continue on foot when you come to the gate that separates the public area from the private rural estate, which allows access to the beach in about ten minutes.
