Located in the heart of the EmpordĂ , the town of Begur is, without a doubt, one of the most wonderful places on the Costa Brava. Of course, its extensive coastline bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, which hides eight coves and small beaches that are well worth a visit, as they form a set of unparalleled beauty.
Today we are moving to this corner of the province of Girona to discover one of its best beaches: Cala Illa Roja. Considered by many to be one of the best nudist beaches in Catalonia, it has a surprising reddish-coloured rocky islet that presides over it. Would you like to find out more about this place? Then don’t miss anything we’ll tell you below!
Idyllic surroundings
Cala Illa Roja is located in an idyllic setting, formed by rocks, pine trees, golden sand and crystal-clear waters. As we mentioned before, the most striking feature of this place is the large mass of reddish-coloured rock that gives it its name, which is more or less attached to the land depending on the tides. The beach is divided in two by a cliff and is about 150 metres long. It is important to bear in mind that, as it is completely surrounded by walls and vegetation, it enjoys fewer hours of sunshine than other beaches in the area.
A worthwhile walk
To get to this cove you will have to walk for a while along the coastal path, a route that is well worth the effort, as the views of the cove are breathtaking. On the other hand, you should know that the only facility you will find is a beach bar that is set up during the summer season.
A nudist beach of international prestige
Finally, we would like to remind you that this is a nudist beach, so you are likely to find many people without swimming costumes. We leave you with our gallery below, where you will find more images of this beach located on the Costa Brava. Don’t miss it!
