Surely the name Waikiki makes you think of beautiful women dancing the hula, white sandy beaches and clear waters, palm trees and heat. Well, you don’t have to go all the way to Hawaii, where the famous beach of the same name is located, to enjoy Waikiki and all its charms (although the dancers are going to be more complicated…): in the province of Tarragona there is a cove that has been baptised with the same name.
Its real name is Cala Fonda and it is a true paradise, much appreciated by nudists but where all types of bathers are welcome, as long as they respect the tranquillity and the environment. Cala Fonda cannot be reached by car, which means that it is not as crowded as other more accessible beaches on the coast of Tarragona.
A fifteen-minute walk
The cove in question, whose beauty you can see in the photos, is situated on a pleasant promenade that crosses a leafy forest on the shores of the Mediterranean. To get there, you have to take the road that goes towards Tarragona in the direction of Playa de la Mora; when you reach the campsite you can park and start walking. The path goes in the opposite direction to the campsite; after a few minutes’ walk you will see a sign with information about the route.
Natural skin mask
The first beach to be seen is called Cala de la Roca Plana, which can be reached by crossing the coastal pine forest. Behind it is Cala Fonda or Waikiki, in all its splendour. The beauty of this place is far superior to other more touristy and crowded beaches, although there are no beach bars or showers. Pure nature. In addition, at Cala Fonda you can have a spa treatment completely free of charge: the clayey sand here can be ground up and mixed with water to make a body mask full of virtues.
