Ajuy a beautiful black sand beach in fuerteventura

Throughout the length and breadth of the planet you can find numerous beaches with white or golden sand. However, black sand beaches are less common and therefore attract a lot of attention. In the Canary Islands we can find several examples, such as the beach we are showing you today, which is located in Fuerteventura.

A beach with a volcanic appearance

As you can see in the images in the gallery, Ajuy beach is characterised by its volcanic aspect and by being surrounded by cliffs. What makes it special, however, is its black sand, mixed with gravel and stones, which contrasts with the white fishermen’s houses.

Dangerous for bathing

The downside of this beach is that it is not very suitable for bathing due to the steepness of its waters, the wind and the strong waves. In fact, it is known as the “Beach of the Dead”, as this is where the people who drowned in the area due to the sea currents used to end up.

Nudist beach

Despite the dangers, Ajuy beach is worth a visit to enjoy the landscape and the caves located between the cliffs, which are millions of years old. As you can imagine, these are caves and cliffs of great scientific value. You should also bear in mind that this is a nudist beach.
