5 beach destinations near barcelona

Barcelona-playa
Barcelona has long been a popular destination for tourists looking to cool off on the coast, and with good reason, as Spain currently tops the list of Blue Flag beaches, an award given to those places that offer comfort, cleanliness and a family atmosphere to their visitors.

If you’re passing through this marvellous city, you’ve probably already seen some of its beaches. Among the best known are Barceloneta, Mar Bella and Bogatell. Most of them have services such as sunbeds, umbrellas, food, drinks or showers, which is why they are so popular and remain full.

For this reason, in this post I would like to invite you to leave Barcelona to visit other cities that will take you to discover irresistible landscapes and, above all, other beaches where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while and do other activities. Are you up for it? You can get to them in different ways, however, on a holiday trip it is always better to have a car. So if you include this plan in your travel itinerary, don’t forget to hire your car in advance so you can save money. It’s easy, quick and you’ll have a lot of fun on your trip.

San Sebastian in Sitges

With an optimum temperature, the water of this beach is very attractive for a good swim. In addition, the climate and the facilities it offers allow visitors to relax and enjoy a few hours of pleasant sunshine. Not only can you enjoy a dip, but you can also enjoy the Catalan gastronomy thanks to the numerous bars and restaurants that are spread along the promenade next to the beach.

Comarruga in Tarragona

The waters of this beach are said to be healthy due to their high iodine content. There are toilets, showers, restaurants and places to buy drinks, as well as the possibility of renting water sports equipment, or if you prefer to give yourself over to rest and relaxation, you can pay for a good umbrella or hammock.

Cala Fonda or Waikiki cove in Tarragona

Cala Fonda is one of my recommended places to escape from the chaos. It is an unspoilt beach, so unlike those in the capital of Catalonia, you won’t find toilets, showers or places to buy food. However, the landscape and the quality of its waters and sand will allow you to rest and relax completely. To get there you will have to park your car in the Marquesa forest and walk a few minutes to discover the grandeur of this cove. The trees and rock formations will give this trip an unparalleled touch of adventure.

Waikiki

Peñíscola in Castellón

Another of the marvellous places to visit during your trip along the Spanish coast, facing the Balearic Sea, is the beach of Peñíscola, famous mainly for being part of one of the most beautiful villages in Spain and for being located in an area where there is access to all the services you could wish for. It is true that it is not as close to Barcelona as the rest, but it is well worth a visit.

playa-PeniscolaThis is a reference point on the coast and it is possible to visit it with the family, as it is very shallow and clean, so going there with children is appropriate. Its sand also lends itself to making beautiful castles. Don’t forget your camera to record the best views of the Papa Luna fortress. If you’ve rented your car, there’s parking there, so there’s no excuse not to go and get some fresh air.

Les Cases d’Alcanar Beach

To get to this beautiful beach by car you only have to take the N-340 road. It has a car park, so access will not be difficult. It is advisable to bring supplies because there are no shops to buy food or drinks. It has a wide promenade where you can enjoy the sound of the waves or you can simply lie back and let the sand relax you and the sun give you the best colour of your holiday skin.

Playa-Les-CasesSpain is the country with the largest number of beaches that stand out for the quality of their waters and services, but there are others that, although they do not have so many facilities, offer visitors the chance to relax and enjoy a quiet holiday where you can recharge your batteries and return to your routine with a renewed body and soul. Don’t miss them.
