Islantilla beach in huelva

playa Huelva
Islantilla is both a beach and a community located in the municipalities of Lepe and Isla Cristina. It is a very prominent place on the Costa de la Luz in Huelva, an invention of 1991 that owes its name to the merger of Isla Cristina and La Antilla.

It was created to encourage tourism in the area, as before there were only houses there, most of which were abandoned. In 1992 they finished the first hotel (the Confortel in the second picture illustrating this article) and opened a golf club. No doubt an indication that they wanted to attract tourists with high purchasing power. In fact, in 2006, the La Cigüeña development was built to attract the attention of the Dutch.

Well communicated

It is an area that is very well communicated, as it is 20 kilometres from Portugal, 40 from Huelva and 120 from Seville. The airports of Faro, Seville and Jerez de la Frontera are not too far away. You can also get there by train, bus and car, in which case you have to take the A-49 that links Seville and Ayamonte.

A popular beach

The beach tends to be particularly busy in July and August, especially at weekends. There is a blue zone during the high season so parking is not impossible. During the rest of the year you can park for free.

It is 1,200 metres long and 60 metres wide. It is a beach of considerable dimensions with a promenade lined with terraces. The sand is golden, the waves are usually moderate and it is one of the many Spanish beaches that has been awarded the blue flag, as well as the Q for Tourist Quality award.

Very well equipped

As it has numerous services (telephone, showers, toilets, beach umbrella rental, sun lounger and deckchair rental…) and is easily accessible on foot (it also has access for the disabled), it is one of the most popular beaches in the area. If we add to this the fact that there are two sailing schools and recreational nautical services, it is normal that we are talking about one of the most recommended beaches in the whole province of Huelva.
