La misericordia beach in malaga

The Costa del Sol is one of those Mediterranean paradises where you can enjoy the good weather and the gastronomy to relax and not think about the problems that beset you throughout the year. Perhaps that is why it is one of the favourite destinations for foreign tourists, who come to the province of Malaga wanting to experience something different from what they experience in their own countries.

The beaches of Malaga are very attractive, and of all of them we could highlight the Playa de la Misericordia, named after an asylum and hospice called Casa de la Misericordia, which ceased to offer its services in 1978.

A large beach with a good promenade

With an extension of 1,500 metres long and 30 metres wide, it could be said to be one of the most visited beaches in Malaga. In high season it is not easy to lay your towel, although it is not as crowded as La Malagueta.

The sand is dark and there are all kinds of services on offer, such as parasols and sun loungers for hire. There are showers, litter bins and a multitude of beach bars where you can enjoy the magnificent Andalusian gastronomy.

Be careful with the towels…

It must be said that on Misericordia Beach the towels closest to the shore are never safe, as every day the tide rises suddenly. Why does this happen? Because of the wave produced by a ship called the “Melillero” every time it arrives in Malaga from Melilla. It usually happens between 19:00 and 19:30, which is when it slows down as it approaches the coast of Malaga. It also happens on other nearby beaches such as La Caleta, La Malagueta, San AndrĂ©s or Huelin.

Finally, the beach is easily accessible by car and on foot. There is also disabled access.
